Common foods that can hurt dogs
Some foods that are normal for people can be dangerous for dogs. This page is a quick reference, not a substitute for calling a veterinarian when an exposure may have happened.
Foods to keep away
- Chocolate: risk depends on the type, amount, and dog’s size.
- Grapes and raisins: can cause serious kidney injury.
- Onions, garlic, and chives: can damage red blood cells.
- Xylitol: a sweetener that can cause dangerous effects, including low blood sugar.
- Alcohol and raw yeast dough: can cause serious poisoning and digestive complications.
If your dog may have eaten something dangerous
